Donald E. Gowan is the Emeritus Robert Cleveland Holland Professor of Old Testament at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. He is a minister in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), and served churches in the Midwest as well as teaching at the college level at North Texas State University. He graduated from the University of South Dakota with a degree in mathematics, and worked for the General Electric Company at the Hanford Atomic Products Operation (Richland, WA) for three years before going to seminary. He is a graduate of the University of Dubuque Theological Seminary and received his Ph.D. from the Divinity School at the University of Chicago.
Dr. Gowan has published ten books on Old Testament studies, including Theology in Exodus (1994), Theology of the Prophetic Books (1998), and a Commentary on Daniel (2001). He is an author of the commentary on Amos in The New Interpreter's Bible, is the editor of The Westminster Theological Wordbook of the Bible, and has written two studies for the Kerygma Program: Shalom: A Study of the Biblical Concept of Peace and Exodus: Gateway to the Bible.
